My Winter Travels

 In general

Well, I had all these wonderful ideas of posting regular blogs while I was away. I am afraid the euphoria of being away overwhelmed me and I was unable to do anything.

So here’s very belated post of my holiday snaps….

We arrived late evening on the 22nd December and very much enjoyed a walk through Vienna to our hotel. Once through the doors we found nothing but perfection at the Guest House Vienna. Our room was squeaky clean and smelt like fresh linen. After an extremely busy month, the only thing we could do was collapse on our bed and fall asleep.

The following day brought blue skies, crisp clean air & Christmas markets 🎄

The beauty of a city break is that you are surrounded by so many wonderful pitstops and Vienna is brimming with independent cafes. I especially enjoyed the Simply Raw Bakery & Cafe Corbaci. Both with brilliant food and gorgeous interiors.

As we had done all of our christmas shopping before we left we spent most of our time window shopping, but wow, the selection of shops!

Vienna has the most amazing sights to see 📷. The Museum Quarter, The Spanish Riding School, St Stephen’s Cathedral, Belvedere Palace… were just some of the places we visited.

My first Christmas abroad…was lovely.

The first thing we did in the morning was open our little stockings to each other (lovingly filled the day before at the market). Breakfast at the hotel was so scrummy! I had Eggs Florentine followed by a cappuccino with Jam on Toast. Boyfriend had Eggs Benedict with 2 rather strong coffees.

A stroll was just what we needed, my strolls tend to be more like a hike eeek…

We enjoyed a stunning walk along the river, a very different sight to the bourgeois city centre of Vienna. Graffiti walls, funky art sculptures & blue skies.

We went via the supermarket on the way back, the only one open! (It was a bit manic) We picked up some of the christmas essentials, clementines, chocolates, nuts, crisps and Babybels. With complimentary bottles of wine in our mini bar, we were all set for an afternoon of christmas tv. Heaven.

Our christmas in Vienna was just perfect. Mainly filled with romance & room service.

Enough to make anyone happy!

After Christmas we decided it would be exciting to hop on a train and spend 3 days in Budapest.

First thing on the agenda was visiting the Opera House for a viewing of La Boheme. It was such a magical evening. If you haven’t seen La Boheme put it on your Bucket List ..and take some tissues!!!

We stayed in a ridiculously funky b&b called Brody House. Complete with Peeling plaster, rustic floors and derelict corridors… an Interior Design Marvel. A spectacular breakfast buffet and friendly staff.

Budapest was very different to Vienna…louder, bigger & rougher round the edges. We walked nearly 10 miles a day (the Hannah stroll 😁) but saw as much as we could in the short time we were there.

One of my highlights was going for coffee and cake at the Four Seasons! Everything hannah’s b&b can aspire to be 😊

After our little excursion we returned to Vienna to spend the BEST New Year I’ve ever had with friends.

What can I say? I won’t go into detail…it involved a lot of booze, a lot of food and a lot of laughing!

Our winter travels…a whirlwind! To top off the whirlwind, we went out with snow!

If you have never been away for Christmas I would definitely recommend it. We had such a blast and the best thing of all (as much as I love it) I didn’t have to cook or clean!

Thank you for tuning in and I look forward to seeing you in 2 weeks.

All the Best 😘
